Oh my dear Lord, there was an experiment done on plants in which children insulted one group of plants and complimented the next group of plants. The plants that were insulted reportedly withered despite being given all the other nutrients it needed as the group that was complimented was given.
Sooooo…….apparently, plants understand human language and kindness??
Yo, I swear, if this ends up true, I have to rethink my whole concept of what language even is.
Now I’m starting to feel that language really isn’t real and it literally is some nonsensical sounds that we attach meaningless understandings to. We already know that plants and animals communicate with each other. But it’s like, when you really think about it, everything is so connected to everything else.
Those plants that IKEA (yes, IKEA) had children insult are literally our cousins. They share some of our genes. It may not even be all that surprising that our languages can all be traced back to a common ancestor with plants.
Another thing about plants is that they communicate with hormones. I’ve mentioned this before: if they’re in distress, they’ll signal to other plants of their species (such as mowed grass giving off that freshly cut grass scent that you smell; heck, it’s Christmastime, maybe those evergreens are screaming in pain). Hormones release secretions and they travel - slowly - from plant to plant.
Humans use hormones, and hormones are connected to our use of emotions. I don’t quite understand how plants receive signals from our hormones to know if what we say is distressing or not (the kids’ voices were recorded; they weren’t directly insulting them), but hormones must have something to do with our communication between living beings.
Either that, or this whole experiment is lying to us and this is just a biased study as IKEA’s “agenda” is to “push” positivity on people lol.
Not to sound Romantic or anything, but I too have a striking fascination with the irrational, the demonic and the grotesque.
